WANTAGH, N.Y. — Three people were killed and four seriously injured after their 40-foot boat ran aground in marshland off Long Island.
Nassau County police say the captain was thrown off the craft when it hit the marsh about 7:30 p.m. Sunday. He was dead when rescuers got to him. Another man and a woman also were dead. The four survivors were taken to nearby hospitals.
The boat was navigating a channel when it ran aground near the Wantagh State Parkway. Officials were not sure what caused the accident.
