FORT CAMPBELL, Ky.—The military announced that a Fort Campbell aviation brigade will deploy to Afghanistan in the spring.
The Department of Defense announced Wednesday that 2,800 soldiers of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade will deploy in early 2010. The Pentagon also announced that 3,300 soldiers from Fort Carson would also deploy.
The brigade will deploy a few months ahead of the 101st Airborne Division command group, which will take command of Regional Command-East in Afghanistan.
Lt. Col. George B. Cox, the deputy commander, said there is a high demand for aviation support in Afghanistan. Cox said the unit will be training in the coming months to deal with the high elevations, terrain and extreme temperatures.
