Honestly, there’s nothing scary about charitable giving. In fact, it can be downright Spooktacular.

Just ask Gregg and Jonathan Alpert, who’ll be at the Tavern Lowry on Oct. 24 for the Halloween-themed costume party that will raise money for the Kempe Children’s Foundation.

Spooktacular is presented by the 15-member Blue Sky Fund, which the Alpert brothers helped start and whose mission is to improve the lives of underprivileged children in Colorado.

Gregg, 27, a graduate student at the University of Colorado’s Leeds School of Business, and Jonathan, 29, a commercial real estate developer with Shea Properties, are from a family whose business and philanthropic roots run deep. By starting Blue Sky Fund, they hope to expand the circle of charitable giving while keeping childhood friendships intact.

“Most of us have been friends since elementary school,” Jonathan Alpert says. “We went to different colleges, but now we’re back in Denver by choice to establish careers and start families of our own. We also want to do as much as we can to make the community we love even better.”

Other members of the Blue Sky Fund are Gregg Sciez, Charlie Crichton, Sam Zaitz, Jonathan Marsico, Ted Halaby Jr., Aaron Rosdal, Matt Weiss, Jordan Robbins, Adam Groom, Brooks Andrisen, Brad Farber, Zachary Zucker and James Flavin.

The $50-a-ticket Spooktacular begins at 8:30 p.m. and includes a hosted bar, food, a silent auction and deejay music. Tickets can be purchased by visiting .

“You don’t have to be a young professional to attend,” Jonathan adds. “Last year we had people from their 20s to their 70s. We make it fun for everyone.”

Who’ll debut?

Twenty-four high school seniors have accepted bids to participate in the 2010 Fine Arts Foundation Debutante Ball, while Denver Ballet Guild will have a total of 58 honorees — 38 debutantes and 20 Young Men of Distinction — at its June 12 Bal de Ballet.
