DENVER—A defense bill nearing passage in Congress includes $381 million for construction at Fort Carson and $92.5 million for a project to destroy mustard agent at the Pueblo Chemical Weapons Depot.

The bill also includes nearly $78 million for construction or land purchases at Colorado’s Peterson, Schriever and Buckley Air Force bases, the Air Force Academy and a Colorado Springs Army Reserve center.

Colorado Democratic Sen. Mark Udall says the Senate is expected to vote on the bill soon. It’s been approved by the House.

Udall is on the Senate Armed Services Committee and served on a conference committee that worked out the bill’s final wording.

The Fort Carson construction will include new housing, dining halls, maintenance shops and other buildings.
