An 18-year-old New Mexico man was arrested this afternoon in connection with the death of a teenage girl who was found in a motel parking lot this morning and pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Joseph Daniel Mascarenas is facing a second degree murder charge and is being held at the Adams County Detention Center on $100,000 bond, according to sheriff’s officials.

Deputies got the call about 6 a.m. and found the girl in the 7300 block of Highway 85 in unincorporated Adams County.

The sheriff’s office didn’t say how old the girl was.
