MONTREAL — Avalanche defenseman John-Michael Liles, who had five points in his first six games, will be out about two weeks after suffering a bruised shoulder Tuesday in Toronto.

The news was considered good to the Avs, however, as initial fears were that he had a separated shoulder – an injury that can take months to heal and often requires surgery. Further examination showed no separation, and Liles will receive normal treatments for the injury, suffered late in the second period after Toronto’s Mikhail Grabovski hit him into the boards.

The Avs did not recall anybody from Lake Erie of the AHL to replace Liles, having recalled rookie defenseman Ryan Wilson over the weekend in place of injured veteran Ruslan Salei. Wilson is expected to make his NHL debut Thursday against Montreal.
