NIWOT — Crocs plans to open a flagship retail store on Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall, company officials announced this week. The maker of colorful clogs will set up shop at 1129 Pearl St., left, a 6,110-square-foot space that received a $500,000 face-lift during the past year.

The new locale — the company’s first retail store in Colorado — is scheduled to open in the spring. While prominent, it puts Crocs a couple of blocks away from one of its longtime customers, Pedestrian Shops, which opened a 760- square-foot “Crocs room” at its 1425 Pearl St. shoe shop in 2005.

Richard Polk, Pedestrian Shops’ owner, said he understands why Crocs is making the move and holds no ill will about it. Alicia Wallace, Boulder Daily Camera
