Riley Nelson earned his 500th point for Colorado as the Eagles earned their first win of the season, 5-2 over the defending champion Texas Brahmas, in a Central Hockey League game Saturday night in Loveland.

Ryan McLeod scored twice for Colorado (1-0-1), which lost in overtime to Texas in the season opener on Friday. Nelson’s power-play goal in the third period was his 203rd goal for the Eagles. He also has 297 assists in a seven-year career in Colorado.

CSU sweeps Utah in key volleyball match.

The Colorado State volleyball team gained a foothold in the Mountain West Conference standings after sweeping Utah in a crucial league match Saturday at Moby Arena in Fort Collins. Danielle Minch recorded 19 kills to pace the league-leading Rams to a 25-14, 25-13, 25-15 victory.

CSU (16-3, 8-0) extended its winning streak to 12 matches and moved two games ahead of second-place Utah (13-7, 6-2) midway through the conference slate.

• The San Diego State volleyball team swept visiting Air Force in an MWC match, 25-19, 25-12, 25-17.

Aggies spike Buffs.

The No. 22-ranked Texas A&M volleyball team held off a Colorado rally for a 3-1 victory in a Big 12 Conference match in College Station, Texas. The Aggies won 25-17, 25-11, 23-25, 25-17.

Colorado (6-12, 1-8) got 13 kills and 10 digs from Rosie Steinhaus. The Buffs’ win in the third set over Texas A&M (13-4, 6-3) was their first over a ranked team this year.

DU men fall in double overtime.

The San Jose State men’s soccer team scored in a second overtime to top visiting Denver 1-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opener for both teams late Friday night.

San Jose State (6-6-1, 1-0-0) got a 22-13 shot advantage over DU (3-6-2, 0-1-0) before Justin Castro’s free-kick goal to the upper left corner of the net in the 110th minute.
