A Denver jury today convicted Gradie Miles, 42. two violent sexual assaults more than a decade ago.

Prosecutors said Miles raped and beat a Denver woman in 1993, dragging her into an alley and stealing a wedding band that belonged to her dead mother. Three years later, prosecutors said, Miles attacked a married couple in a backyard in the 1700 block of Spruce Street, beating them both and sexually assaulting the wife.

His arrest was a result of the work of Denver’s Cold Case Project and DNA evidence, according to the Denver District Attorney’s office.

“This conviction highlights the important work of Denver’s Cold Case Project and how this work can prevent future crime,” Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey said in a statement.

Miles was found guilty on two counts of first-degree sexual assault resulting in serious bodily injury, first-degree sexual assault with a deadly weapon and sexual assault with the use of force.

Prosecutors said Miles would be sentenced after a another sexual assault case against him is tried. He has other felony cases awaiting trial, as well.
