PUEBLO, Colo.—A 60-year-old homecoming queen candidate was once accused in a fatal shooting at a Denver women’s shelter.
KUSA-TV reports that Juanita Whitaker was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 1989 shootings of three people, including the woman who died.
News reports at the time said Whitaker claimed that a computer chip that her ex-husband implanted in her brain was to blame for the shootings.
Whitaker says she has changed and that this is her second chance in life. She says she now works to help the disabled and mentally ill.
Results of Thursday’s homecoming election at Colorado State University-Pueblo will be announced Saturday.
