Looking back, the Rapids have no one else to blame but themselves after officially being knocked out of the Major League Soccer playoffs Sunday for the third consecutive year.
No team can expect to make the playoffs after going winless (with four ties) in its final seven games, including a 3-0 loss Saturday against Real Salt Lake in Utah.
Still, the Rapids had hope. If Columbus, which already had claimed home-field advantage with the league’s best record, won at home Sunday against New England, Colorado would have made it in.
But the Crew didn’t come through, and New England grabbed the final playoff spot with a 1-0 win.
