The Santa Fe arts district will get a major new gallery when the Center for Visual Art relocates there in the spring.

The Metropolitan State College of Denver Foundation, which coordinates the center, announced Tuesday that it is moving from its current location in downtown Denver to 965 Santa Fe Drive. The foundation closes Friday on the property, being purchased for $1.5 million.

The purchase includes more than 22,000 square feet of property, including 9,000 square feet of gallery space, according to the foundation.

The Boettcher Foundation contributed a lead grant of $425,000 toward the new gallery.

The CVA hosts student exhibitions as well as major shows from an international lineup of artists.
