ERIE, Colo.—Each week, four employees at John Murphy Millwork in Erie have pitched in $10 apiece to buy lottery tickets.
It paid off this week.
The group won $1 million in the Powerball drawing Saturday by matching five numbers and choosing the Power Play option. Each is receiving nearly $178,000 after taxes.
Cabinet maker John Abeyta of Thornton said he would give a small amount of his prize to the clerk who sold the winning ticket. Bookkeeper Delena DeLaBarre of Firestone says she plans to pay off debt and give each of her three children $5,000.
The other two winners, Kris Kincade and Chris Tompkins, could not immediately be reached for comment.
DeLaBarre says more co-workers want to join the group’s pool now.
