DENVER—Serious gaps in Colorado police records are making it hard for police to track problem drivers.
A state audit released Monday shows that about half of the 1.1 million traffic cases go through courts that do not have access to a statewide database.
The audit was ordered after an illegal immigrant killed three people at an ice cream shop in 2008, including a 3-year-old boy.
Francis M. Hernandez was an unlicensed driver who had more than a dozen prior arrests and multiple traffic offenses in Colorado but managed to stay off immigration officials’ radar by using 12 aliases and two dates of birth.
