DENVER—A former Denver Public Schools social worker accused of locking an 11-year-old boy in a room and sexually assaulting him in 1989 and 1990 has pleaded guilty.
Fifty-year-old Eugene Summers pleaded guilty Wednesday to a charge of kidnapping-victim of a sexual assault. A second count of kidnapping was dismissed. Prosecutors say he was a family friend of the victim.
The case had resulted in a mistrial this summer.
Summers faces up to 16 years in prison at a sentencing hearing Jan. 5 and will have to register as a sex offender.
Summers had been accused in 2007 of sexually assaulting another boy between 1992 and 1996, but that case was dismissed after the Colorado Court of Appeals ruled that the statute of limitations had expired.
