Boulder County Sgt. Lance Enholm said about 50 family members, deputies and rangers searched the West Magnolia Recreation Area on Sunday in a continuing search for 19-year-old camper Justin Pleiss.

Pleiss left his father’s home in Arvada on Oct. 25, the Sunday before a snowstorm dumped more than 2 feet of snow in the Nederland area.

Enholm said the rescue team decided to end the search at nightfall Sunday because “they feel like they’ve exhausted the search efforts in that area.”

Rangers found evidence Pleiss had been camping in the West Magnolia Recreation Area, Enholm said, but no sign of Pleiss himself. The Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Front Range Rescue Dogs, Boulder County Mounted Search and Rescue Team and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office participated in the search.

Pleiss is a “survivalist” camper and took minimal food and supplies with him, his family told police. Daily Camera
