FORT COLLINS — A Loveland man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for killing a man with a sword.
Twenty-year-old Larry Walters had pleaded guilty to reckless manslaughter. He originally faced a murder charge in the killing of 34-year-old David Shern, who died May 1.
Police said Walters was upset with Shern over an obscene gesture and stabbed Shern in the upper back. Defense attorneys argued that Shern was drunk and aggressive at the time.
Walters was sentenced Monday.
