AURORA, Colo.—Some military veterans are now teaching in public schools, and a Democratic senator from Colorado is visiting them to highlight the federal “Troops To Teachers” program.
Sen. Michael Bennet was visiting a school in Aurora Thursday where veterans are teaching. Aurora Superintendent John Barry is a retired major general in the Air Force. One veteran is a special-education kindergarten teacher at Altura Elementary.
Bennet has co-sponsored a bill that would expand eligibility for the “Troops To Teachers” program. Started in 1994, the program recruits military members to second careers teaching in low-income schools.
