Getting your player ready...

A center who originally drew looks from Marquette and two guards who lend some needed backcourt depth followed through with previous commitments and signed letters of intent Wednesday with Colorado State’s men’s basketball team.

Chad Calcaterra — a 6-foot-10, 250-pound center from Cloquet (Minn.) High School — comes in averaging 23.8 points and 10.9 rebounds as a junior in addition to 4.3 blocks a game.

“He’ll be the school’s all-time leader in rebounding and scoring,” CSU coach Tim Miles said. “He’s a very good get for us. He’s what we need in an interior player.”

Calcaterra said in August when he committed he was won over by the new facilities.

Also joining the Rams is Dwight Smith — a 6-4, 190-pound guard from Ralston High School in Omaha and the brother of Rams freshman guard Greg Smith — and Maurice Wiltz, a 6-2, 175-pound guard out of Stafford, Texas.

Colorado coach Jeff Bzdelik did not expect to sign any players in the early signing period. The CU women’s team has not released its signees.

CSU second-year women’s coach Kristen Holt added five players, including forward Samantha Martin of Chaparral and guard Hayley Thompson of Mullen. As well, the Rams signed former ThunderRidge star forward Kelly Hartig, who was a starter last season at Virginia.

Holt also signed twin guards Mandy and Amber Makeever of Peaster, Texas.

Hartig, who started 32 games last season as the Cavaliers went to the NCAA Tournament, will have to sit out a year because of transfer rules.
