DENVER—A former Denver paramedic charged with assaulting a patient in his ambulance has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Prosecutors said 31-one-year-old Alan Miller was one of the paramedics who responded to a call of a patient who had suffered a seizure and hit his head Jan. 3.

Another paramedic on the call told police the ambulance had to stop after the patient slipped out of his restraints, and that four police officers helped restrain the patient.

Prosecutors say Miller fractured the patient’s skull and broke his nose and an eye socket, then falsely blamed the assault on a police officer.

A jury convicted him last month of second-degree assault causing serious bodily injury and false reporting. He was sentenced Friday.
