
Animals that have been kept at the Colorado Humane Society will be moved into the Humane Society of South Platte Valley when their new facility opens next year, according to Englewood deputy city manager Mike Flaherty.
Colorado Humane’s shelters will close Jan. 1, a state-appointed custodian running the troubled shelter said last week.
Robert and Mary Warren and Mary Warren’s daughter, Stephenie Gardner, managers of Colorado Humane, are accused of mismanaging shelter funds and euthanizing animals to make room for adoptable pets. The three deny any wrongdoing.
In December 2008, Attorney General John Suthers appointed Rick Block as custodian of the shelter.
Block and Englewood and Littleton city officials have been working over the past year to find a new animal shelter solution.
Nick Fisher, former director of the Table Mountain Animal Shelter in Golden, established a new animal-welfare organization — the Humane Society of South Platte Valley — to serve western Arapahoe County.
