COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Snow and ice that slid off the roof of the U.S. Olympic Committee headquarters in Colorado Springs damaged four vehicles, prompting the city to close a street and block a sidewalk.
Lt. Brian Keys of the city fire department says the snow and ice slipped off the six-story building Monday after drains froze over. The building has an aluminum roof that is flat on top with a long slant which creates an overhang.
City spokeswoman Sue Skiffington-Blumberg said Tuesday the cost of sending a fire truck and personnel to the scene was almost $2,000.
Denver-based OZ Architecture says it is working on a remedy.
Skiffington-Blumberg says owners of the damaged vehicles will be compensated.
