DENVER—A man who brought attention to homeless veterans in Colorado Springs has been granted a conditional bond as he fights federal misdemeanor charges of lying about having military decorations.
Thirty-two-year-old Richard Glen Strandlof was in the custody of U.S. Marshals until there was room for him to be released to a community corrections and treatment facility on a $10,000 bond.
Conditions of the bond granted Wednesday require him to seek a job and stay away from military or veterans facilities.
Investigators say Strandlof claimed he was a Marine captain named Rick Duncan who had earned a Purple Heart and a Silver Star Medal.
Strandlof later allegedly told an investigator he never served in the military.
