EDMONTON, Alberta — Avalanche captain Adam Foote hoped to play Wednesday night against the Oilers, but was held out as a precaution with a jaw injury.
The Avs said Foote’s jaw is not broken, and he was listed as a game-time decision. Veteran Tom Preissing took Foote’s spot in the lineup and recorded his first career point with the Avs, a first-period assist. But he also made a critical turnover on Edmonton’s game-winning goal in the third period and is now a minus-5 in two games.
Foote took an elbow to the jaw from Calgary’s Curtis Glencross in the first period of Colorado’s 3-2 victory Tuesday.
Point for Durno.
Rookie left wing Chris Durno got his first NHL point for the Avs, a first-period assist. Durno turned 29 last month. Durno said the point “felt great,” but that was the only thing he felt good about after the loss.
“We didn’t put them away when we had the chance,” Durno said.
Avs coach Joe Sacco praised Durno’s play, even saying: “I probably should have played him more.”
Durno got 7:56 of ice time.
Footnotes.
John-Michael Liles (shoulder) and T.J. Galiardi (ankle) were held out of the lineup. There is a chance either could play Friday at Vancouver. . . . Avs rookie Ryan Wilson laid a big hit on Oilers captain Ethan Moreau, which knocked Moreau out of the game. Wilson thought the hit, which did not draw a penalty, was clean. . . . Rookie Ryan O’Reilly had probably his first truly bad game of the season, finishing minus-3 and only one shot on net. . . . Defenseman Scott Hannan took a hard spill in the first period and appeared to hurt a leg, but played on.
