Denver-based Udi’s Bakery sells its fine granola in 50 statesand partner Eric Clayman says it’s hard to resist.
So hard that the most unlikely people love it — and miss it when they can’t get it. “Our Israeli founder Udi Baron makes a granola so delicious that no one can say no,” Clayman says.
The fast-growing company (it makes the best airline food out there for Frontier) has been hyping its granola in the highly irreverent Heeb magazine. The ads started with a picture of the Iranian president eating Udi’s granola, with the caption “Even Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a surprise fan of Udi’s Granola.”
They did the same ad featuring Mel Gibson and Ann Coulter.
“We figure only a young, hip Jewish audience would get it,” says Clayman, explaining why the ads appear in Heeb.
Now comes a twist. The latest ad has a picture of Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff eating Udi’s Granola with the caption, “A breakfast without Udi’s might as well be bread and water.”
“We figured he was the perfect person,” Clayman says.
Harmony
. Boulder a cappella group Face is headed to Hollywood next week to compete in the NBC series “The Sing-Off.” In what sounds like an “American Idol”-ish show for a cappellas, Face is one of eight groups chosen from a nationwide search to strut their harmony.
“All the sound comes out of our face,” member Mark Megibow says in explaining their name. The six guys live in Boulder, Denver and in-between. They’re regulars at the Soiled Dove, the Boulder Theater and Nissi’s Bistro in Lafayette.
The show will have only four episodes — two hours each on Dec. 14-16 and a finale on Dec. 21. You can vote after the Dec. 16 show, so get ready to dial.
“We call ourselves a vocal rock band,” Megibow says. “We bring a lot of energy to the stage. They want us to be us.”
