No. 6 Purdue 73, No. 9 Tennessee 72: The Volunteers (4-1) had a chance to win it, but center Wayne Chism missed an open 3-pointer from the top of the key with two seconds remaining in the championship game of the Paradise Jam on Monday night.

“That was a great college basketball game right there,” Purdue coach Matt Painter said moments after the Boilermakers (4-0) stormed the court to celebrate before a capacity crowd at the University of Virgin Islands Sports and Fitness Center.

Kelsey Barlow missed two free throws with 17.6 seconds remaining to give the Volunteers an opportunity to set up the possible game- winning shot.

No. 3 Texas 85, Iowa 60: Dexter Pittman scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half and the Longhorns survived Cully Payne’s miracle shot in the semifinals of the CBE Classic in Kansas City, Mo.

Down 14 points early, the Hawkeyes closed the first half with a flurry of 3-pointers, capped by Payne’s buzzer-beating heave from beyond midcourt that tied the game.

No. 11 N. Carolina 93, Gardner-Webb 72: Deon Thompson scored 22 points to help the host Tar Heels bounce back from their first loss and give coach Roy Williams his 599th victory.

No. 19 Clemson 102, Winthrop 66: Trevor Booker had 15 points and 11 rebounds to help the host Tigers win their 30th straight game in November. The Tigers (4-0) haven’t lost in November since a 79-70 defeat at Boston College on Nov. 26, 2004.

Cincinnati 67, No. 24 Vanderbilt 58: Yancy Gates scored 12 points in an 18-2 first-half run that set the tone for Cincinnati’s upset win in the first round of the EA Sports Maui Invitational. The Commodores (2-1) were ranked for the first time since March 17, 2008.

No. 10 Duke 57, Charlotte 44: The Blue Devils overcame an early deficit with a 15-0 run in the first half.
