A suspicious death in Aspen last week was an accidental death, police there said today.
The second autopsy of Cheryl Ann Lurie Friday indicated that a sprinkler head near where her body was found caused her fatal head injury.
The body of the 54-year-old longtime Aspen resident was found dead the morning of Nov. 16 behind the Pitkin County Library in Aspen. The coroner said after the first autopsy that she died of “blunt force trauma to the head.”
She had watched the Denver Broncos football game the night before at the downtown Aspen Elks Lodge, authorities had said.
“Based on information obtained by the coroner and pathologists, evidence collected, and interviews conducted as part of the investigation, the Aspen Police Department believes that the death of Cheryl Ann Lurie was accidental, despite the curious circumstances,” Aspen police said in a statement.
Police said they are still investigating, however, and would not elaborate on the “curious circumstances” until the investigation is complete, however.
