His grandfather’s advice to always carry a sharp knife made Michael Zamora a bus-stop hero Oct. 9.
For springing into action and cutting down a man trying to hang himself, Zamora was honored by Denver police Tuesday as a Bill Daniels Neighborhood Hero.
Zamora told police at the scene that he used his knife to cut the leather belt the despondent man used to try to hang himself at the bus stop at Colfax Avenue and Broadway.
Zamora stayed with the man until help arrived, police said. Zamora was lauded at Denver police headquarters by Chief Gerry Whitman and Linda Childears, president and chief executive of the Daniels Fund, which sponsors the award. The Denver Post
