Getting your player ready...

FORT COLLINS — Former Colorado State offensive coordinator Dan Hammerschmidt, making his first visit to Hughes Stadium as a Wyoming assistant, may have set some unofficial stadium record for hugging the most coaches, players and fans from both sides.

“Those guys did a great job,” he said of CSU.

In the parking lot where he used to tailgate with CSU coaches, he greeted CSU coaches and Wyoming fans alike, high fiving and low fiving.

For all the animosity between the teams, and a near-confrontation in pregame warm-ups, fans from both sides tailgated together.

Injuries add up.

Quarterback Jon Eastman took every snap for CSU, despite some speculation wide receiver/quarterback T.J. Borcky might get a chance. Grant Stucker, who sustained a shoulder injury a week ago, did not suit up for pregame senior introductions. It was the first time CSU changed starting quarterbacks during the regular season since Justin Holland broke his leg midway through 2004.

In other lineup changes, Travis Ford became the third starter at free safety this season, although Ivory Herd saw some action. Backup tight end Adam Seymore left with an injury and offensive tackle Mark Starr moved over to tight end.

Footnotes.

Wyoming’s John Fletcher, one of five Cowboys defensive starters from Colorado, blocked a PAT. . . . This is the first time CSU has not won a single conference game since 1981. The Rams became the first MWC team to go 0-8. Wyoming was 0-7 prior to league expansion. . . . Wyoming’s bowl plans will not be official until after the BCS selections. If TCU goes to a BCS game, as expected, and Utah and BYU wind up in the Las Vegas and Poinsettia Bowls, respectively, the New Mexico Bowl is the most likely destination. The Armed Forces Bowl is a possibility if Air Force does not go to Fort Worth, Texas.
