Julie Andrews is to perform in London, 30 years after her last appearance on the British stage.

Concert promoters AEG Europe said last week the star of such musicals as “Mary Poppins” and “The Sound of Music” will appear at London’s 02 Arena on May 8.

Andrews had noncancerous throat nodules removed in 1997. The operation initially left her unable to sing.

Andrews has since starred in “The Princess Diaries” and was the voice of Queen Lillian in the “Shrek” film series. Tickets go on sale Thursday.

Andrews says in a statement “to perform once again in my homeland on the London stage will be a wonderful moment — it is where it all began for me.”

The international touring production of “Mary Poppins” (without Andrews) comes to Denver’s Buell Theatre from March 4-April 4.

Great songs, big honor

The Doors’ “Riders on the Storm” and the Beach Boys’ “California Girls” are among 25 recordings being inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

The Recording Academy said last week that the hall of fame now includes a total of 851 titles that were selected to represent the triumphs and achievements of the recording arts. The inductees were drawn from all categories of music.

Other recordings selected this year include: James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” Jose Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad,” Janis Joplin’s “Pearl,” the Isley Brothers’ “Twist and Shout,” Louis Armstrong’s “Lazy River,” and Muddy Waters’ “I Feel Like Going Home.”

Sade soldiers on

Sade is making music again.

The soulful English group fronted by 50-year-old singer Sade Adu will release a new album Feb. 8, according to Epic Records.

“Soldier of Love” will be the group’s first studio album since 2000’s “Lovers Rock.” All five of Sade’s studio albums have landed in the Top 10 on the Billboard Top 200, selling more than 50 million copies worldwide.

“Soldier of Love” was recorded in England and produced by the band and longtime collaborator Mike Pela.
