PATERSON, N.J. — A man chased down and shot his wife and their two sons in northern New Jersey on Saturday — killing one boy — before he was fatally shot by an off-duty police officer, police said.
It was not immediately clear what sparked the gunfire, which occurred about 9 a.m. Paterson police Lt. Ronald Humphrey declined to comment on a possible motive.
Seven-year-old Adrian Gonzales was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 11-year-old brother, Edryn Gonzales, and their mother, Johanna, 31, were both hospitalized in critical condition. Humphrey would not disclose further details on their injuries.
The gunman, Edelmiro Gonzales, 54, was also taken to the hospital, where he died a short time later.
