LINCOLN, Neb.—Nebraska is among six Big 12 teams that will play in the 64-team NCAA women’s volleyball tournament, the athletics association announced Sunday.
The Cornhuskers (23-6) open the first round Friday at the Nebraska Coliseum against Coastal Carolina (20-13). The match will start at 7 p.m. CST, or 30 minutes after a match between Washington State (18-12) and Northern Iowa (30-2), the Huskers said on their Web site.
Other Big 12 schools selected for the tournament include second-seed Texas, Baylor, Iowa State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.
Penn State is the No. 1 seed, followed by Texas, Florida State and Stanford.
Nebraska was the top-ranked team going into the last three tournaments and advanced to the final four three times in the past four years. The Cornhuskers won the title in 2006, 2000 and 1995.
Last year, Nebraska fell to tournament winner Penn State in the semifinals.
Tickets for the first and second rounds at the Nebraska Coliseum go on sale Monday morning. This season marks the 23rd time that Lincoln has played host to first- and second-round competition.
Regionals will take place Dec. 11-12, with two rounds at Qwest Center Omaha. Tickets for those matches are already on sale.
The championship game will be Dec. 19 in Tampa, Fla.
