Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. of Boulder has been selected by NASA to build a second instrument that is expected to improve climate predictions.

The Global Precipitation Measurement Microwave Imager, or GMI, is a multi- channel microwave radiometer that provides highly accurate precipitation measurements from space.

Ball is to complete testing on the GMI1 by mid- 2010. It is scheduled to fly aboard a space-borne observatory when it is launched in 2013. GMI2 will be launched in 2014.
