It’s snowing along the Front Range this morning and temperatures in the teens are making for icy, slick spots on some roads and highways.

Light snow should continue to fall throughout the morning in the Denver area before letting up sometime early this afternoon, additional accumulations today are expected to be less than one inch in the city, according to the National Weather Service. Douglas County and the southern metro area, however, should see a slight bit more snow today.

Steady, light snow should fall this morning from the Wyoming border to the Palmer Divide and from the mountains to the eastern plains, the weather service said.

After taking a break this afternoon, snow is expected to make a return tonight, but overnight accumulations should be light, with about another inch of snow along the Front Range, the weather service reports.

There’s a chance for light snow along the foothills Thursday.

Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are expected along the I-25 corridor, the weather service reports, with 2 to 4 inches of new snow in the foothills and mountains.

High temperatures today and tomorrow in Denver will climb only into the mid-20s, forecasters said. Temperatures are normally in the mid-40s at this time, according to the weather service. The record for Dec. 2 is minus-17 set in 1911.

Snow in most areas should diminish by Wednesday night into Thursday, but cold weather will remain despite partly sunny skies on Friday, reaching only 30 degrees.

Overnight lows on Wednesday and Thursday in Denver should be in the upper single digits, with the weather service calling for a low temperature of nine degrees on both nights.

Temperatures may warm only into the middle or upper 30s this weekend, according to the forecast.

A chance of snow returns to the forecast for the Front Range on Saturday and Sunday.
