DENVER—A woman awaiting sentencing in a Washington, D.C.-area identity theft case whose victims included Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s wife also faces charges in Denver.
Denver prosecutors said Tuesday they have charged 38-year-old Shonya Young of South Carolina with three counts of theft, three counts of forgery and two counts of identity theft. They have accused her of taking a woman’s purse at a sporting event in Minneapolis in 2007 and using stolen checks to take about $13,000 from Colorado banks.
Young also was accused in an identity theft ring in the Washington area. Victims included Anna Bernanke, whose purse was stolen outside a coffee shop in August 2008. Someone cashed checks using the Bernankes’ bank account days later.
