Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper will travel to Copenhagen this weekend to participate in a panel discussion on the role of public transportation in reducing carbon emissions.
Peter Rogoff, the administrator of the Federal Transit Administration, invited Hickenlooper to be on the panel, said the mayor’s spokesman, Eric Brown.
The FTA is paying for the trip to the United Nations Climate Change Conference, which runs Monday through Dec. 18.
The mayor has not taken any other international trips this year, Brown said.
Hickenlooper will be in Copenhagen Sunday through Wednesday.
U.S. Sen. Mark Udall of Colorado also has plans to travel to Copenhagen, though debate on health care reform could affect his departure or return dates, said spokeswoman Tara Trujillo.
U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet’s office is sending a legislative aide, his office said.
The coordinator of Colorado’s efforts to combat climate change, former state Rep. Alice Madden, also plans to attend, said Evan Dreyer, a spokesman for Gov. Bill Ritter.
