Satellite-television companies Dish Network Corp. and DirecTV Group Inc. would be able to continue offering big-city network stations to some rural subscribers under a bill passed by the U.S. House on Thursday.
It passed 394-11. The Senate hasn’t passed its version.
Without congressional action, about 1 million households would lose access to the distant programming at year’s end, when a national license expires, said Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas.
