OMAHA, Neb.—A 13-year-old boy is in stable condition after a steel beam fell from a gymnasium ceiling and hit him on the head at a north Omaha middle school.
Omaha Public Schools spokeswoman Luanne Nelson said the accident happened about 11:30 a.m. Thursday as the boy was walking into the gym for class at McMillan Magnet Center.
The steel beam was used to help hold up rolled-up wrestling mats to the ceiling.
Nelson said the boy lost consciousness before being taken to a hospital.
Nelson said a crew had been in the gym working on the device that pulls the mats to the ceiling.
