The Fort Lewis men’s soccer team scored three goals within six minutes to start the second half and routed Le Moyne (N.Y.) 8-2 in an NCAA Division II Tournament semifinal game Thursday in Tampa, Fla.

The top-seeded Skyhawks advanced to Saturday’s championship game, where they will face Lees-McRae (N.C.) at 2 p.m.

Senior forward David Barden, playing in his first game since breaking his foot three weeks ago, scored three goals to lead Fort Lewis (23-1). Joe Barnd and Euan Purcell added two goals apiece. Fort Lewis, playing in its fourth championship game, won the national title in 2005 and was runner-up in 2006.

Lees-McRae (19-2-1) played Lewis University (Ill.) to a 2-2 tie in the other semifinal and advanced on penalty kicks, 5-3.

Kempter chasing LPGA card.

Albuquerque’s Katie Kempter, a former standout at the University of Denver, carded a 3-under-par 69 to move up four places into third place after the second round of an LPGA Tour qualifying tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla.

At 5-under 139, Kempter is one stroke behind co-leaders Jane Chin of California and Nikki Garrett of Australia on the par-72, 6,389-yard Champions Course at LPGA International.
