A state audit of low-income child-care programs Monday found problems with some families meeting eligibility requirements and the failure of the state Department of Human Services to meet a June 30 deadline to enact measures to address problems from an earlier audit.
The auditors found deficiencies in three of 40 case files they reviewed involving child-care subsidies for low-income families. In one file, no documentation had been provided to see whether the family was eligible for the $10,753 in subsidies it received. In the other two cases, no documentation was found that children, who received about $700 in subsidies, were U.S. citizens.
