The Denver City Council agreed on Monday to push final consideration of a new zoning code to April.
The council originally hoped to approve the new zoning code this year, but this summer, it issued a resolution pushing consideration back to early 2010. Councilwoman Carla Madison said Monday that the public now wants even more time to weigh in on the overhaul.
The council approved the delay on a 9-0 vote, with council members Judy Montero, Michael Hancock, Jeanne Faatz and Doug Linkhart absent.
The council also agreed that once the new code is adopted, the public could file development applications under the new code or the old code for six months.
Councilman Rick Garcia said he hopes the latest schedule will stick and wants to avoid further delays.
Councilman Chris Nevitt added that the delay shouldn’t be interpreted as a lack of resolve by the council.
Under the revised schedule, the council will hold a public hearing and final consideration of the new code April 19. The planning board also will hold a public hearing Feb. 17.
