Colorado’s cold snap will get colder and snowier tonight and tomorrow, with most of the state under a winter weather watch and the San Juan Mountains under a blizzard warning.

The metro region and foothills could see another 1 to 3 inches overnight and 2 to 4 inches Tuesday, according to the the National Weather Service office in Boulder.

The high temperature in Denver Tuesday is expected to be about 12 degrees around 9 a.m. with a low of about 4 degrees, but the gusty cold front could create wind chill factors as low as minus-14, forecasters said.

The high on Wednesday in the city is expected to be about 22 before warming into the 30s on Thursday and Friday and the 40s this weekend.

On the Western Slope, some areas could see 16 to 30 inches by Tuesday evening as a “major winter storm” with “abundant Pacific moisture” moves into the state starting at about midnight, according to the Weather Service.

The blizzard warning for southwest Colorado is in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday. Highway and weather officials are urging motorists not to travel in the area until after the warning expires and roads are cleared.

The storm is expected to bring gusty winds ahead of the bitter cold front, creating white-out conditions in some locations, officials said.

Grand Junction could receive 6 to 8 inches by Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
