FORT CARSON, Colo.—Military officials say a Fort Carson soldier from Oregon has been killed in Afghanistan.
The Defense Department says Sgt. Elijah J. Rao of Lake Oswego died Saturday in Nuristan of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
The 26-year-old was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, based at Fort Carson.
On Wednesday, Fort Carson held a memorial service for two other soldiers killed in Afghanistan in separate attacks. Sgt. Eduviges Guadalupe Wolf and Pfc. Devin J. Michel both died in October.
