Getting your player ready...

Green Valley Ranch golf course has hit a hole-in-one with the return of Lana Ortega and her company Lana Ortega Golf.

Ortega, 46, will lead lessons as part of The Colorado Golf Academy, owned by instructors Eli Haskell and Joe Egnoski.

“I am happy to be back there,” Ortega said. “I just wanted an indoor place to teach. I really enjoyed all the high-tech amenities that that facility offers, and it’s an experience my students deserve in terms of more high- end golf instruction.”

For 12 years, Ortega honed her craft under the tutelage of famed instructor Mike McGetrick at the McGetrick Golf Academy at Meridian Golf Club and then at Green Valley Ranch.

She started her own golf academy at GVR in 2006, then moved to The Links at Highlands Ranch and most recently the Family Sports Center in Centennial. Ortega has garnered several accolades in the golf world, including being named one of the top 50 teachers in Golf for Women beginning in 2004 until the magazine folded. “I’m so very excited about the synergies between the Oakwood Homes/GVR campus, and getting back to delivering the type of instruction experience that matches my goals.”

Ortega’s offering a December and January lesson special of $30 for 30 minutes and $55 for an hour. Call: 303-574-0775.

Sign of the times.

John Cimino, a partner in the Denver law firm Cimino & Benham, says his firm is offering a free bankruptcy per month, “maybe more, depending on demand. We take public service seriously and want to offer this screaming deal to Colorado,” he said.

There will be a drawing each month. To enter, go to or call 303-830-7274.

Dog daze.

Flying Dog Brewery, which was based in Denver before moving operations to Frederick, Md., has launched Raging Bitch, a new Belgian-style IPA, in celebration of the brew’s 20th anniversary. Seriously?

I don’t know about you, but that name doesn’t exactly make me want to run out and scoop up a six-pack. The beer has been banned in New Hampshire and West Virginia.

A friend of mine who’s going through a divorce said he plans on buying a sixer for his soon-to-be ex-wife. And as one colleague asked, “Does it come in growlers?”

Foodie fodder.

Eavesdropping

on two women at Thai Bistro in south Jefferson County: “How do you tell if it’s really cold?”

“When I’m drying my hair, I shoot the warm air from the blow-dryer down the front of my bathrobe.”
