Denver police are investigating the discovery of a body found in an alley near railroad tracks, a woman who had been shot.

On Sunday police received a call at about 7:50 a.m. on a report of a body in the 5000 block of Fillmore Street, according to a Denver Police Department media release.

Officers at the scene “found the victim who appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds,” police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and her death is being investigated as a homicide.

The name of the woman was not released, pending notification of relatives.

The Denver Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy and determine the cause of death.

The coroner’s office reported that the body was found in the alley of the 5000 block between Fillmore and Clayton Streets.
