Denver Councilman Paul Lopez announced Monday night during the City Council’s weekly meeting that he is receiving treatment for testicular cancer.
Lopez, 31, said he underwent surgery in October and is doing two treatments of chemotherapy as a further preventative measure, one of which he already completed.
Doctors have told him the survivability prognosis is high, and he says he expects to “come back 100 percent.”
He said he will continue to perform his duties as a councilman and will continue representing his district on Denver’s west side.
“This has definitely been a grateful lesson learned, not just for my own health, but now it has given me an opportunity to share this lesson with other young men and encourage prevention by early detection,” Lopez said.
