WASHINGTON — Time’s Person of the Year one moment, object of Senate scorn the next. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke faces a vote today in the Senate Banking Committee on his nomination for another four-year term.
Wednesday, as Time magazine unveiled its annual year-end cover story, senators blamed him for failing to anticipate the financial crisis and for approving massive Wall Street bailouts.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent liberal from Vermont, called Bernanke a “key architect of the Bush economy.”
Bernanke was picked for his efforts to shepherd the U.S. out of the biggest economic slump since the Great Depression, Time managing editor Richard Stengel said. Post news services
