CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Bengals receiver Chris Henry is “battling for his life” after falling out of the back of a pickup truck Wednesday during what police described as a domestic dispute with his fiancee.
Henry was found in the road about 8 miles north of downtown Charlotte “apparently suffering life-threatening injuries,” according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Police spokesman Robert Fey said officers were stationed near Henry’s hospital room. Fey had no information on Henry’s condition.
Police said a dispute began at a home just before noon and Henry jumped into the bed of the pickup truck as his fiancee — whom they did not identify by name — was driving away from the residence.
“The domestic situation continued between the operator and Mr. Henry,” the police said. “At some point while she was driving, Mr. Henry came out of the back of the vehicle.”
Henry was away from the team after breaking his left forearm during a win over Baltimore on Nov. 8.
• Bengals rookie tight end Chase Coffman had bone spurs removed from his left ankle and is expected to be ready for the start of next season.
Brady skips practice
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Patriots quarterback Tom Brady sat out practice with a number of nagging injuries, but said his biggest challenge is getting enough sleep.
Brady was asked about the first week with his still- unnamed baby boy with wife Gisele Bundchen.
“It’s good. It’s good. I’m glad it’s over,” Brady said. “Trying to get back to my normal sleep schedule, which I’m sure, for all of us parents, is a little tough early, but it’s coming. Getting used to this.”
Brady has finger and rib injuries as well as a sore shoulder. Sanchez ready to return
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Mark Sanchez was back on the field taking snaps for the Jets, ready to reclaim his starting job. Now, it’s all up to his sprained right knee.
“I felt good today,” San- chez said. “We’ll see how it goes, play it day to day and talk to the doctors again (today). But I feel confident.”
Sanchez, who is wearing a brace on both knees, practiced for the first time since spraining the posterior cruciate ligament in the knee against Buffalo on Dec. 3.
“I looked like Forrest Gump out there, man,” he said, adding the braces are lightweight.
Coach Rex Ryan said he wants to be sure there’s no stiffness or swelling in San-chez’s knee before deciding whether he or Kellen Clemens will start against Atlanta.
