Christmas comes early to fans of freestyle and nordic combined skiing this week as the 2010 U.S. Olympic team trials arrive in Steamboat Springs on Wednesday and Thursday. While the majority of the U.S. Olympic teams for moguls, aerials and nordic combined will be determined by season-long World Cup competition, five spots are on the line during this week’s one-shot qualifying competition in Ski Town USA. The two-day event kicks off at 9 a.m. Wednesday with an individual nordic combined competition at historic Howelsen Hill, followed by men’s and women’s moguls at 1 p.m. at the Steamboat ski area. A free concert featuring Colorado favorites Big Head Todd and the Monsters follows the moguls competition at 3:30 p.m. in the Gondola Plaza. The aerialists take to the snow at Steamboat at 10 a.m. Thursday.

See it: The entire event is scheduled to air on NBC at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
