It might as well be a video game. The controversial computer format employed to determine participants in college football’s Bowl Championship Series will be used to decide a mythical national high school champion from a field that includes back-to-back Colorado Class 5A winner Mullen.

Beginning Jan. 4, the inaugural Massey Virtual National Championship will pit 50 state champions and 14 at-large teams using the same computer technology as the BCS. It will take six days and will be seeded by USA Today and run by .

Mullen, which has won 19 games in a row, capped a 14-0 season by defeating Pomona 27-24 on Dec. 5 at Invesco Field at Mile High.

“We had a great year, and I’m really proud of the kids,” Mullen coach Dave Logan said.

The “winner” will be announced at 9 a.m. MST on Jan. 9 at .
